For a city that is constantly on the move it is no surprise that their events calendar also represent a never ending stream of entertainment. Therefore the sporting events that take place within the city of Melbourne are also many and varied. From tennis to football to Formula 1 Racing, this sprawling suburb has it all.

The month of January itself comes out with a bang. With major events like the Audi Victoria Week where “all things nautical” are celebrated at the biggest sailing regatta in Australia and the Australian Open Tennis Championship starting out the events calendar. It’s quickly followed by the Superbike World Championship held in Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and the Moonah Classic where the golfers showcase their prowess during the month of February. The Formula 1 World Championships kick start their engines in the Australian Grand Prix during the month of March, managing to overshadow any other sporting event that month. The Rip Curl Pro and Warrnambool May Race Carnival take place during the months of April and May managing to wind up the first half of the year.

The month of September kicks off with the Australian Football League Final Series and only gets better. The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, UCI Road World Championships, Spring Racing Carnival – which spans over six weeks and the Melbourne Cup Carnival, are some of the events unfolding throughout the successive months. The two latter festivals are thoroughbred racing festivals that promise world class entertainment and powerful displays of speed. Equitana Asia Pacific, Australian Masters and Melbourne Boxing Day Test round out the revelries for the year, thus ending with a treat that promises to be unforgettable to cricket fans the world over.

A collection of luxury 5 star hotels that has managed to garner a name for themselves as being among the best since the year 1865 is The Langham brand. Renown for its inspiring service, exquisite culinary prowess and distinctive elegance, the Langham hotels create a surrounding of tranquility and luxury without being overbearing. This brand of hotel has only grown to greater heights through the years and promises “only to continue outdoing” themselves in the future as well.

Article by Gavin Wyatt

It may be Australia’s second largest city, but Melbourne is seen as leading the country in many other departments. Its sports-mad residents refer to it as the sporting capital of Australia, and the large amount of world class stadiums, tournaments and teams based in the city justify this claim. This sports fever contrasts with, yet is enhanced by, the vibrant arts and crafts scene in the city that has made it the centre of all cultural activity in Australia. This strong sense of culture is evident in the heritage buildings, the galleries and the museums of Melbourne and has given it a reputation as a city of creative expression, which is reflected in the music, theatre and festival scene. An interesting, diverse and very cosmopolitan city, any holiday here is going to be an intriguing mix of history, art, sport and beaches thrown in with all the attractions of a modern and cutting edge city.

At the forefront of the arts and culture scene is the Melbourne Museum, the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere. Located in the Carlton Gardens, no visit to Melbourne is complete without stopping in here and checking out its seven galleries, the Discovery Centre or the incredible IMAX theatre which shows movies in 3-D format. The kids will be completely enthralled as they browse through Egyptian mummies and dinosaur bones from China! World Class travelling exhibitions find temporary homes here, and it also promotes the local arts scene and the history of the area. Another similar establishment is the National Gallery of Victoria, which is the oldest and largest public art gallery in Australia, having being established in 1861. It holds 63 000 pieces of work from arts masters of yesteryear and modern times, and is worth visiting to see these permanent exhibitions and the diverse range of travelling ones that it hosts.

The strong emphasis on culture and creativity in Melbourne has resulted in a vibrant and electric night life. It is a stronghold for live music and performances, and on any given night musicians will be filling the pubs and clubs with their smooth sounds. The seaside suburb of St. Kilda is seen as leading the way in this sense, and its bohemian atmosphere and creative reputation is enhanced by the performers, whether they be busking in the street or playing in the pubs. The pubs and the restaurants throughout the whole city also reflect the cultural diversity of Melbourne, and you can sample foods from a dazzling array of world cuisines, from classic English fare to truly exotic island-style dishes. Melburnians are big on their fine dining, and hand in hand with this goes there appreciation for a good drop of wine. The regions surrounding the city produce some of the finest wines in the country, and nothing beats a good meal with a bottle of the local red or white… Its the Melbourne thing to do!

To fully appreciate the sporting fever in this city you need to go to a live match, and there are lots to choose from. The Australian Tennis Open takes place at the Rod Laver Arena here every year, and is a huge drawcard for tourists. Perhaps the best atmosphere at a match can be found at one of the AFL (Australian Football League) matches. The sport was born in this part of Australia before spreading to the rest of the country, and it holds a special place in the heart of the city. The atmosphere at the fiercely fought matches confirms all this. Perhaps the most renowned stadium in the city is the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground), and a cricket match or an athletics meet here should not be missed. If there is nothing on then you are still able to take a tour of the inner workings of the ground, where you pass through the Cricketers Hall of Fame.

A city as large as Melbourne has countless accommodation options, ranging from the cheap backpacker variety to luxurious five star hotels. Regardless of what your budget is, the perfect place for you to stay is out there, you just need to find it. That may seem like a daunting task, but thanks to accommodationinmelbourne.com.au it doesn’t have to be. The people at Accommodation in Melbourne have compiled comprehensive lists of all the hotels and apartments in the city, divided up into their various suburbs. All you need to do is log onto the website, choose the suburb you are staying in and then view the information provided on the accommodation venues in that area. Its as easy as that! If its centrally located backpacker accommodation you are after then look no further than urbancentral.com.au, an upmarket hostel situated right in the heart of Melbourne. They specialise in group bookings and tour organisation, and the very reasonable prices are complemented by the friendly staff!

The great thing about a holiday to Melbourne is that if you tire of the attractions of the city or feel like some fresh country air then there is plenty to choose form in the surrounding regions. Head west to drive along the Great Ocean Road and enjoy the spectacular views and bizarre geological features. The Mediterranean delights of the Mornington Peninsula are just a short drive away, as are the rugged mountains and lush valleys of the Dandenong Ranges. Whatever your age group or whatever your interests, the city of Melbourne and its beautiful surrounds will have something to make your holiday special. A hire car from Discovery will give you the freedom to explore the diversity of attractions on offer.

Article by jekky

History
Magnetic tickets were first used in Sydney on the Eastern Suburbs Railway line, from 1979. Integrated bus-rail tickets were also available for this line. An automated multi-ride ticket system called MetroTen, based on optical mark recognition rather than magnetic stripe technology, was used on Sydney’s government buses from 1987 until 1992. In general, however, Sydney commuters used paper tickets specific to the mode of transport on which they were purchased until the early 1990s.
Automated Fare Collection System tickets were introduced on ferry services provided by State Transit between 1988 and 1989, replacing a system of token coins and turnstiles. State Transit installed ticket vending machines and ticket barriers at Circular Quay and Manly, the main wharves in its network. The operation of the ferries ticketing system was the focus of a corruption inquiry in 1999.
On 31 August 1992, State Transit introduced automated fare collection to its Sydney and Newcastle bus networks as the State Transit Automated Ticketing System, or STATS. STATS replaced a limited multi-ride ticketing system called MetroTen, which was easily and frequently defrauded by passengers. Of the “el cheapo Metroten ticketing system that the former Labor Government installed”, then transport minister Bruce Baird told Parliament that “Many people know that rorting has gone on” and “The system is outdated and has outlived its usefulness.”
The change was heralded by the installation of two green ticket validators in each of State Transit’s 1600 buses.
Tackling fare evasion was also at the heart of automated ticketing on the rail network. Baird told Parliament that under the Wran and Unsworth governments, “between 10 and 20 per cent” were checked and that this had risen to “between 50 per cent and 60 per cent” since the Greiner government took office. “With automatic fare collection,” Baird told Parliament, “85 per cent of all tickets will be checked regularly. It is estimated that somewhere in the range of million to million each year will be collected by way of revenue that should have been paid for travel on State Rail.”
CityRail’s adoption of automated ticketing was more fraught, occurring late and over budget. Officials blamed the size of the rail system. While the State Transit equipped two stopsircular Quay and Manlyith ticket vending machines, CityRail was required to outfit almost 300 stations with them. The government was forced to allay fears that automated ticketing would mean that more stations would have staffing withdrawn once vending machines were in place.
Automatic ticketing, including vending machines and ticket barriers, was introduced to the CityRail network over 12 months between July 1992 and July 1993, at a cost of some million. Baird estimated that reduced fare evasion would net “in the range of million to million each year”.
Tickets
Multi-modal
TravelPass
DayTripper
Pensioner Excursion
Blue Mountains ExplorerLink
TramLink
BusPlus
Train
A CityRail adult single train ticket.
Single
Return
Off Peak Return
7 Day RailPass
14 Day RailPass
FlexiPass
Bus
A Sydney Buses multi-ride ticket.
TravelTen (Sydney)
2 Zone TravelPass
BusTripper
TimeTen (Newcastle)
Prepaid single tickets for use on PrePay Only services
Single bus tickets purchased on board the bus are printed on thermal paper and do not carry a magnetic stripe.
Ferry
Single
FerryTen
ZooPass
AquariumPass
New Tickets
From April 2010, the current line of tickets is to be replaced by a simpler fare structure called MyZone.

For many people, their pets are another member of their family. When a member of your family needs a check up or urgent medical care, you don’t just find the closest doctor, no! you find the best! So why wouldn’t you do the same when it comes to finding a quality Veterinary Clinic for your pet. In this article, Animal Medical Clinic or Melbourne Florida wants to give you some advice on how to shop for the best for your pet.

It all starts with the Vets. Where ever your take your pet you need to make sure that the Vets are quality doctors who know there fields in and out! Make sure they have great creditably and are members of top Veterinary Society’s. Animal Medical Clinic is a AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) Only 15% of Veterinary Clinic’s and Animal Hospitals have this accreditation. When a clinic has these kinds of endorsements in means they have meet the vigorous requirements and are among the best in the county.

Next make sure they have accessibility. Make sure you can get to the clinic in case of an emergency. Make sure that your Veterinary Clinic is also an Animal Hospital. They must be able to serve you in the event of an injury or illness.

Lastly, make sure your clinic offers services that go above and beyond the other clinics in your area. Animal Medical Clinic offer tons of extra services for there clients such as; Acupuncture, Dental Care, Ultrasound and Boarding.

Acupuncture is a medical therapy developed over 2000 years ago in Asia. Acupuncture stimulates specific points beneath the skin by the insertion of acupuncture needles. This process restores the balance of the body’s energy, also known as “Qi”(pronounced chi). Scientifically, acupuncture works by stimulation of precise points on the surface of the body, resulting in the release of the body’s own cortisone, endorphins and infection fighting compounds resulting in relief of symptoms as well as treatment of the cause.

Periodontal disease is an infection resulting from allowing soft plaque and calculus to build up on the tooth surface. The bacteria in the plaque irritate the gum tissue and eventually cause infection in the bone that supports the teeth.

Pet owners tend to notice bad breath in their pets, but this is the least of our problems. First, the gums become inflamed and painful. Then the bone supporting the tooth becomes infected causing bone loss and loose teeth. If more than 50% of the bone supporting the tooth is lost then the tooth must be extracted. The bacteria causing periodontal disease can also lead to disease in the heart, kidneys, and liver.

If the tooth surfaces are kept clean, then the gums will be healthy as well. Homecare such as brushing, Dentacetic Wipes, chewing activities, and special diets will all help prevent dental disease. Professional dental cleaning and oral exam on a regular basis is mandatory to maintain good oral health. The frequency of professional dental cleanings will vary depending on the breed, age of the pet, and the amount of homecare that is provided.

Ultrasound is used to diagnose diseases of the liver, kidney, heart and many other organs. It is also used for pregnancy diagnosis. It is a non-invasive technology that allows us to actually see inside the body. However, unlike x-rays, there is no radiation exposure to the patient. As the name implies, ultrasound uses very high frequency sound waves to form a picture of the internal organs similar to sonar. Compared to x-rays, which basically give an outline of the internal organs and bones, ultrasound allows us to actually see the internal architecture and structure of an internal organ. This is a major advantage over x-rays because it allows us to see abnormalities within the organs with much greater precision and accuracy. We are able to see tumors and other small localized abnormalities within the organs that are not visible on x-ray films. Another very important advantage of ultrasound over x-rays is that it allows us to measure the size of structures within the body and to visualize blood flow in arteries, veins, and organs within the body.

Animal Medical Clinic offers both full-service veterinary care and high class boarding accommodations. Our boarding facility is clean and cheery and is staffed by caring attendants who will love your pet. If your pet becomes ill while boarding, the doctors on duty will be notified to examine your pet. You will also be notified to give permission for any non-emergency treatment.

When searching for your vet, we hope you consder some of the suggestions in this article.

Article by Paul Gold

With the recent World economic downturn which has had an impact on the housing market it has come to light that Roger Federer has been inspecting his property portfolio

The business empire that has been built up over the past 6 or 7 years with many properties dotted around the globe is now under scrutiny.

Looking back, it quickly becomes obvious that the fortunes of this company was built around the now substantial Hotel he bought from the Swedish Borg organization in Wimbledon, the apartment block in New York, the lovely house in Melbourne and the apartment in Paris

Apparently the apartment he has in Paris is up for sale as it doesn’t look as though he will be spending a lot of time there in the future and the shadow cast over it by the ever expanding Spanish hotel that stands opposite is keeping the light out. In fact on Sunday after the French Open the apartment had no electricity and in fact needed candles in most rooms to see what was happening.

There is now speculation about the large hotel he has at Wimbledon as there are apparently buyouts on the close horizon from a Serbian company as well as a very serious bid from the Spanish company who own the big Hotel in Paris.

The nice house in Melbourne and the Apartment block in New York are ok for the moment but could well be affected by recent events in Paris and upcoming events in Wimbledon.

All in all it’s a worrying time for the Federer group as the boom times of the past few years have slowed down and it’s only the casino win in Estoril that is of note this calendar year and if things don’t change it is conceivable that they will not be the number 1 real estate company by the end of the year as they have been for the last 4 years.

Also there is now real doubt over whether they can overturn the record figures posted by the American company Sampras a few years back, when it seemed a formality this time last year.

But a year is a long time in this business and a slide in fortune by one company that coincides with the upturn in fortune by one or two others quickly closes any gaps that existed and shifts the momentum and tide in a completely different direction.

Unfortunately for Federer, the tide that carried them to record after record in recent years seems to have shifted, bringing others players into the game whilst slowing them down at the same time.

One could say they were now beginning to swim against this tide!

I hope they just don’t swallow too much water along the way and can find a nice island to relax on before they go under!

With the look of an old cottage on both the outside and the inside, Vinyl Lounge is a small, but cosy bar amongst the more vibrant bars and nightclubs along Mount Alexander Road, but Vinyl Lounge holds its own against its competitors.

Vinyl Lounge is a pretty small venue that has the aforementioned cottage look, especially thanks to the 1970s-style shiny flower wallpaper, but mixed with the look of a modern lounge bar at the same time. The round and cylinder amber chandeliers makes the venue very dimly lit, giving it a relaxed feel to it, though the bar has bright blue lighting that makes it stand out, though all the beers and tequilas on display do that already. There are also “Cocktail of the Month” signs around, making it obvious that cocktails are the main drink the venue is trying to sell its customers, which will be an even more lucrative move for the venue on Happy Hour Fridays. After purchasing said drinks, there are comfy white seats along the walls, as well as stools around small tables to sit at, for those wanting to have a drink or two before heading to the dance floor, and they have a TV playing music videos from Channel V to watch too.

The dance floor is tiny, but fits in with the cosy feel Vinyl Lounge is going for, especially with the fireplace there, though there are disco balls above the dance floor. The DJ played commercial, house, and electro music that the venue’s crowd of people in their late-20s and older really got into. Playing new songs like ‘I Got A Feeling’ by The Black Eyed Peas (the female patrons ‘wooed’ when this song started playing) and ‘Hotel Room Service’ by Pitbull, as well as classic ’80s dance tracks like ‘Sweet Dreams’ by The Eurythmics, all the music was just as danceable but varied at the same time. There was a big screen TV near the dance floor too, though it was not put to good use as it was just used to promote an upcoming event at the bar, which could have been playing music videos as well, which would have not only been simply more interesting to look at, but also more fitting with what was going on at the dance floor.

Available for private functions as well, Vinyl Lounge would be a good place to go to if you and a big group of friends want a venue to have a private party at and drink up and dance the night away together, though on other nights it is a much quieter and relaxed affair.

There are loads and loads of things to love about the city in Australia, Melbourne. This classy city in south-east curve of the mainland Australia inspires deep zeal in those blessed enough to reside here.
Melbourne, the capital city of Victoria is relatively a modern place which is not even 200 years of age and by no chance sits still. This beautiful place is a lot about the lifestyle. The new ultramodern designs add a lot to the charming mix of the architecture and make sure that the skyline is persistently changing. It is not a surprise that this superb city is ranked among the best cities to live in.

Melbourne people known as Melburnians embrace 3 things in exacting:

1. Sports: here the game of football is next to a religion. People go crazy during a football match.

2. Festivals: It seems that the people in this city always look for a chance to celebrate. The calendar is full of special dates and occasions.

3. Fashion: Now this is one of the major things which Melburnians are good at. They always look in the style with a dash of originality.

Melbourne has a notoriously changeably climate. There is even a joke on the weather of this city. It is said that this place can see 4 seasons in a single day. But, honestly, it is just an example of how this city has it all!

Not only these, Melbourne a great place with loads of attractions. People from all over the world come here to see the wonders of this city. Some of the major tourist attractions are art galleries, museums, zoo, parks and a lot more.
